Cultivate What You Want by Loving What You Have

The concept of a new year can bring promise and sometimes a sense of not being content with the things that we already have.

Our mind is naturally inclined toward the negative and as a result we may focus on what needs to be “fix” or maybe we only focus on the things that are not going so well in our lives.

We can bring an energy of dissatisfaction and with it a feeling of heaviness. Have you ever heard yourself think?

“This is the year that I have to…exercise, loose weight, read more, meet the man/woman of my dreams, land that dream job, etc.”

Try not to see the new year as an opportunity to erase and begin. See it as an opportunity to cultivate the positives in your life and to experience all that comes to you. If you think about it, you are still the same person. Just because is a new year it does not mean that you have to change who you are. We will only be happy when we learn to appreciate what we already have. Follow these steps below to help you cultivate self-love and loving the life that you already have!

  1. Acknowledge who you are as a person, not what defines you as a worker, dad, mom or friend. Who are you? What makes you happy and come alive?

  2.  Reflect on what you are grateful for.

  3.  Learn to let go of the things that no longer serve you and what you have no control over.

  4.  Acknowledge everything that you already have and bring into the New Year with you! If you forget this important step, you are setting too lofty of expectations for your year because you are coming from a sense of lack vs. a feeling of “I have enough.”
